Cloud Organization

Domains

Every ObjectOS Cloud plan includes a branded platform subdomain; Team and above add your own domain to the production environment, proven by a TXT record, with the certificate issued for you.

An environment on ObjectOS Cloud can be reached at two kinds of address.

The rules on this page were ruled on cloud#1087 (platform subdomains free on every plan) and cloud#2136 (your own domain).

Platform subdomains

Your production environment's address is your organization's slug on the platform domain. It is free on every plan, and so is any other branded label you choose.

To change it, open the environment's Settings → Name and domain and choose Change Hostname. Type just the label: the platform domain is added for you. A label is 4 to 63 lowercase letters, digits and dashes, with no dash at either end and no two in a row, and a few reserved words are refused. It does not have to start with your organization's slug.

To add a second platform subdomain instead of replacing the first, use Add Domain in the same section. The address shown on the environment's Overview is the one to give people.

Your own domain

On Team and above, the production environment can also answer at a subdomain of a domain you own, such as app.acme.com.

  1. Add it. In Settings → Name and domain, choose Add Domain (or Change Hostname) and type the full hostname. It must be a subdomain — at least three labels. A root domain such as acme.com is refused: use www.acme.com or another subdomain.
  2. Prove you own it. The domain is created as Pending Verification, and the console shows a TXT record to publish: name _objectos-challenge.<your hostname>, with a value unique to this domain. It also shows the CNAME target your hostname should point to.
  3. Verify. Once the TXT record is published, choose Verify DNS on the domain. ObjectOS Cloud checks the record, then requests the certificate; the domain moves through Verified and Provisioning Certificate to Active. Choose Verify DNS again to move it on if it stops at a step.
  4. Make it primary (optional). Set as Primary decides which address sign-in redirects, email links and share links use. The platform subdomain keeps working beside it.

Sessions belong to one address: switching between the platform subdomain and your own domain means signing in again.

When something goes wrong

What you seeWhy, and what to do
403 CUSTOM_DOMAIN_PLAN_LOCKEDThe organization is on Free. Upgrade to Team.
403 DEV_ENV_DOMAIN_LOCKEDThis is a development environment. Add the domain to the production environment.
400 INVALID_FORMAT, asking for www or a subdomainYou typed a root domain. Use a subdomain such as www.acme.com.
403 CONTACT_SALES_PLANThe environment already has its one domain. More than one is an Enterprise arrangement.
409 DUPLICATE_VALUEAnother environment is already serving that hostname.
Verify answers that the TXT record is not visible yetDNS has not propagated, or the record name or value differs. The answer repeats the record expected.
FailedThe certificate could not be issued. Check the CNAME and choose Verify DNS again; it re-proves ownership first.

Downgrade and upgrade

A downgrade pauses your own domain; it never releases it. The domain turns Suspended, stops serving, and its certificate is withdrawn, but the record stays. If it was primary, links fall back to the platform subdomain, which is unaffected. On any later upgrade the domain is re-provisioned by itself while your CNAME still points at us. There is no "released after N days".

A suspended domain does not block anyone else who can prove ownership of that hostname: if another environment proves it, the suspended claim is given up.

Removing a domain

Delete on the domain stops it serving and frees the hostname. Permanently deleting the environment removes all its domains with it.
